Brisbane

I recently went to Brisbane for a couple of days holiday, and I gotta say, if you want to go somewhere where you can be on holidays and have absolutely nowhere touristy to go, Brisbane is the place. There is a river, it has ferries go up and down it and there are bike/pedestrian paths up either side. Anything else touristy is somewhere else in Queensland.

This makes it the ideal place for a relaxing holiday really, after all, you can come home having not done much and you don't feel like you've missed anything...I loved it.

Ordaining Homosexuals

If you butt into my life, can I butt in on yours??

Everyone seems to have an opinion on the church and its leadership, but they’re not so happy when the church expresses concern about them and their leadership.

Over the past few years it has amazed me just how many people are concerned with who is able to be ordained by the church and who isn’t. A lot of people who usually wouldn’t have a bar of church, preferring to ignore it, suddenly want to have their 2c worth on whether homosexuals should be ordained.

My question: if you think your opinion should be heard about the church’s leadership, then surely you a fair minded enough to let the church then express an opinion about your leadership. The church believes that God is the creator and judge of all the earth, and he should be the leader, the boss, of your life. If you can’t accept this as a valid opinion on the leadership on your life, I put it to you that your opinion on the leadership of the church is equally irrelevant.

It's been a while

I've just realised how slack I am at blogging...oh well.

Now that we're in the middle of World Cup fever, with the Aussies proving that half of soccer is creating a stack of chances in the belief that on or two might drop, and that should be about enough, I think I'll run through other sporting feats that I almost missed:
+ Simon Evans has won the Queensland leg of the ARC for the first time - looks good for the Championship
+ Wimbledon starts tonight - another classic Will He(nman) or won't He(nman)
+ My little brother apparently won the Gunnedah Sheep Tossing Comp (or something like that!)

As you can see, there's a lot to be excited about apart from soccer!

Anyhow, tonight the Italians...if they can drag themselves away from their mirrors and play soccer - and avoid that spate of momentary but seemingly career ending injuries they seem to suffer any time a defender looks at them...

Lets not mention refereeing.

Go the Socceroos!!!!!!!

Synchronised with what?

Ok, really need to get this off my chest:

At the Commonwealth Games, there was an event for the Solo Synchronised Swimming. Now, I may be ignorant, but surely this event is missing the point of synchronised swimming??

I admit, moving in water to the music, and dealing with the fact that sound travels faster through water than air takes some skill. And getting yourself to sink and rise up and wave around without drowning or looking like a combination between a wallowing seal and a shark thrashing about, all with a smile that looks more plastic than Ray Martin's hair, certainly requires a fair bit of practice. But I ask you, where is the synchronisation??

Of course, my introduction to the fine art of synchronised swimming was through Roy and H.G's incisive commentary at the Sydney Olympics, the way those Chinese girls depicted the drilling for the foundations of the Great Wall was masterful, and perhaps this has given me a somewhat maligned view of synchronised swimming, but I really must say that the 'solo' version is lacking something integral - ie the synchronisation.

I did check carefully to ensure that Matthew Helm did not win gold in the solo synchronised 10m platform diving. And Libby Lenton was not winning medals in 1/4 relays, so, I ask you, WHAT IS WITH SOLO SYNCHRONISED SWIMMING?????

AWB

I would have thought the whole AWB thing is pretty simple when it comes to the politicians. You see, Mark Vaile is up to be sacked for incompetence. Either because he has no idea what his department is up to, or he is incapable of ensuring we don't break UN sanctions. I really don't mind which he is sacked for, under the new workplace reforms recently brought in, he won't have a comeback.

Mind you, while we're at it, whoever the 'advisors' were who managed to think that a fair few warnings of irregularities concerning AWB were unimportant, they might wish to read up on their rights under the new workplace laws too.

And a quick question to John Howard and Alexander Downer: if concern is raised by several international bodies that I am part of a terrorist cell, as long as I reassure you each time you ask me that I am not, you won't be taking any further action will you? After all, I've said I'm not, and I'm trustworthy right?

TV Advertising

Have you noticed how Digital TV, Plasma and LCD are all trying to advertise, on TV, how much better the picture is? Now, it may just be me and my 12-inch screen, but it doesn't work trying to show me how much better the picture is, cause I'm seeing it through a normal TV. I just watched an ad for a new one that apparently gives a clearer picture at high speed - unfortunately, they had to falsify the blurriness of my normal piture to get the point across, and as far as I could tell, it wasn't any better than normal for me. Maybe the ads are aimed at people who believe their picture is actually as bad as the ad makes out. Either way, I think they have a better bet telling us how much more stylish and how little room they take up...

The Commonwealth Games

Well, now that the Melbourne has, in the same way every city before it, delivered the 'best games ever', let us take a little time to reflect on what they meant to people.

To the athletes: a chance for many to perform little known sports in front of crowds knowing little about them.

To the volunteers: a chance to expand their CV

To the politicians: a chance to jostle for position presenting gold medals, in fact, this could almost have been a Commonwealth sport for all the effort involved. It was nice that John Howard did consider the cyclone devastation in Queensland was more important than whichever event it interrupted for him. Of course, he didn't stay there long, what with medals to present and photo opps with all those female athletes!

To the everyday Aussie: a chance to prove to the poms once more that criminals have the genetic makeup that bodes well for sports...is it just that we cheat better, or is it the cunning and the need to be faster, stronger, etc??

To the Commonwealth: (have you ever notices its ironic that in the Commonwealth, wealth isn't particularly common?) a chance to demonstrate our unity and diversity, even if we only ever do this through sport.

To the rest of the world: 'Will they or won't they? Australia considers selling uranium to China'

A whatsie whoosa?

Yes, it is a kinda weird title for a blog (but have you seen the rest). Look it up if you're not sure, if you're still not sure, well, its a post-modern world, so don't concern yourself too much with labels and their meanings...
